Episode 82 – What To Do When You’re Stuck

Episode 82 – What To Do When You’re Stuck

Podcast

I want to get real about something today. Lately, I’ve been feeling stuck, and I don’t want to hide from the things that weigh me down, but rather share them with you all because it truly happens to the best of us.

A lot of the businesses I work with often find themselves in a rut, as well. And the biggest thing that I tell them they need to do is something different. No matter how much effort or how many hours you put in, unless you are doing something different and next-level, you’ll never actually reach any other level than the one you’re on. So when this pandemic hit and left all of my one-on-one clients distraught, I dug in. I got down in the trenches with them and tried everything in my being to help them out. While I don’t regret this, being so caught up in everyone else’s vision made me lose sight of my own.

I was stuck. And my anxiety was rearing its ugly head. But I just kept reminding myself the same things I say to my clients when they feel this way. The truth is, the only way to push through and get to the other side is having the ability to recognize that what you’re doing isn’t working and that something needs to change. No one is ever actually stuck, they just believe themselves to be. They react and psych themselves out, myself included, instead of just taking a step back and assessing what is really important and needs our focus.

I have three things that I’ve been doing to help myself out of this funk that I think can help you, too. And the first thing is don’t fight it. Instead, embrace the feeling of defeat or exhaustion. Let yourself unplug for a few hours, a few days even, if needed. Take that time to brainstorm out how you are feeling and why and how you can change that. The second, be okay with creating something crappy. Even if you think it’s no good and you’d rather just not do it at all, do it anyway. It can be messy and it can be sloppy, but all that does is help us to see in front of us where we need to make changes. We can’t know what works and what doesn’t until we put it out there into the world. There is always room for improvement. Third and lastly, don’t stop and wait for inspiration. If we waited around all day for the perfect plan or idea, we would never do anything. There is no such thing. There is only doing and it either succeeds or it fails, but waiting around for something that may never come is worse than failure.

Feeling sorry for ourselves won’t get us much of anywhere, and often times will just make us feel worse than we already do. Take action, no matter how big or small, how good or bad, any step forward is a step in the right direction. That step forward is your next best step.
