Confidence plays a big role in any part of a business. You as a business owner has to show up each and every day confident in what you do and your goals and visions, your customers have confidence in you to deliver whatever product or service they go to you for, and most importantly, to make sure both of the individuals mentioned before aren’t let down…you need confident employees.
Too often do people come to me with complaints about trying to get people to do their job correctly, or better, or without a million questions about each delegated task. And my answer to them is always the same: it all starts with you. You set the tone for your business, and within that should be a plan that you’ve created to properly educate employees on what they need to do and why so that there is no room for questions or uncertainty. If they are trained well, they will perform well. Otherwise, we set them up for failure.
When educating a staff, you don’t want to simply have them going through the motions to complete a task. You want to make sure they really understand the purpose of the business, the grander vision you have for it, and how each employee fits in a unique role to make that vision a reality. When people can take ownership and pride in what they do because they are aware of why they are doing it to begin with, they just work better. As a business owner, you always want to hold a space for people to be able to rise to their highest potential and give them the tools to do so.
Creating a space of not only inclusivity and creativity, but one where people who come to work for us can become super-educated on a subject and feel confident in their own role, that will not only get them to do their job better, but everyone involved will be able to work more confidently and with ease. And when things run smoothly, like a well-oiled machine, the business itself has no choice but to grow and keep moving forward toward the dreams you have for it.
