How can we get employees to do their jobs better? Well, to be frank, there is no magic answer. However, when people come to me with this question and I take a deeper look into how they run their business, the answer often lies in that they aren’t setting their employees up for success.
When you hire somebody new, there should be a process in place to welcome them into the business by showing them what it is you do, what makes you different, and what their role is in the grand scheme. When there is no system like this in place, how can we expect people to know what’s expected of them?
The three processes that any successful business should implement for new hires are:
- A welcome into what your business does and why.
- Explain what the role of a specific job is and how it is done.
- This is sort of a continuance of the first two processes. Many businesses leave this out, but it is crucial to making sure your employee continues to not only do their job well, but master it and truly thrive in that position.
Motivating staff can be a difficult thing to do, especially in the state of the current business world. But when we properly welcome, train, educate, and connect with our employees and constantly give them room to grow and succeed, that is when you will start to see people take matters into their own hands and get to work.
