With all of the uncertainty out there right now, I know myself as well as many others are starved for some kind of certainty in our lives. When we have certainty and can clearly see the path before us, it helps us shape our perspective on our business, on the world, and when we don’t have that, everything feels chaotic.
When the quarantine first started, I had just left the hospital from an emergency surgery. I was trying to heal physically and mentally myself, but at the same time knew I had people that needed my help, too. I’ve been through similar circumstances once before, back in 2008 when the economy plummeted, but this time is a bit different. It’s hard to know what to do when we are in completely unchartered waters. But I was determined to help people get some kind of certainty back into their lives, even if the smallest amount.
A lot of the businesses that I work with have begun to increase their online presence a lot this past month. Though many of these places are brick and mortar stores, having that virtual factor will up the ante in any scenario, chaos or not. It’s another way for your customers to reach you and for you to reach them. From virtual classes, to online ordering, and live-streaming entertainment, the possibilities for your business to succeed through this adversity are endless. There are even resources out there to help you to get started on doing so if you are not yet online.
Don’t get me wrong, there are still areas of struggle for everyone right now. Many people still testing and trying things out to see what works and what doesn’t. This is new for everyone. I definitely don’t have all of the answers, but what I can tell you is that nothing is permanent. As long as we continue to wake up every day with the mindset to keep things moving forward, things will get better. Use this time to learn and grow as a person, as a business owner. This is a time to reflect on what we’ve been doing and how we’ve been running things. When we better ourselves, we can put better things out into the world.
If we look at the challenges thrown at us as struggle, they will be just that. But if we choose to look at them as a lesson being given to us to help us to grow, we will come out of it better people. I always ask myself what the lesson is in any given situation. The answer doesn’t always come right away, but if I keep asking, it eventually shows itself.
Things won’t change themselves; we have to take action and make the things we want to happen, happen. This situation was brought about to give us some time to pause, to reflect, and to reset our lives and way of thinking a bit. Sometimes we need a giant shakeup to realize this.
