Episode 91 – 3 Questions to Ask Yourself to Achieve Growth in 2021

Podcast

We’re about to close out on 2020, and that means a brand-new year lies ahead of us. In my last podcast episode, I talked about the four different types of entrepreneurs: The Control Master, The Avoider, The People Pleaser, and The Visionary. Now, the last one, The Visionary, that is the ideal entrepreneur type. The other three, however? If you find yourself in any of those categories, you’ve got work to do.

Every one of us has their faults, no one is good at everything all of the time. Taking the time to sit down and figure out what it is you are doing wrong and trying to rectify it is what will set you apart from the rest. Entrepreneurs from every background will eventually end up facing a lot of similar problems when running their business. The key to pushing through and moving forward towards the growth you want to see is to realize what is holding you back from that. And all of those entrepreneur types that we don’t want to be are wherein lies the answers.

Whether you avoid tasks and put things off for later or for someone else to do, try and do everything yourself and the way you want to, or are dictated by everyone but yourself in your business, you won’t be getting much of anywhere. Plenty of people I’ve talked to this year have been so frustrated and fed up with everything that’s been thrown at them, they don’t want to think about anything but moving on into a new year with a fresh start. While that is all fine and dandy, there can’t truly be a fresh start if the issues that were present last year have not been addressed.

The hard work is, well, hard. And not everyone is going to want to do all the stuff it takes to get a business in order with systems and processes that get things to flow better, but it’s just what has to be done. No one is going to come save you, and waiting for a government bailout might be just as pointless. The only person who can take your business, lift it off the ground, and get it moving towards a better tomorrow is YOU.

Speaking of your future self, reflect on 2020 and think about these couple of questions for a bit.

  • What worked? What did you do this year that worked really well? Too often do we only focus on what went wrong, and not what went
  • What didn’t work and needs improved? Now that you’ve had a chance to bring some positive aspects to light, you also want to look at what needs work in your business.
  • What do we do really well? Find the strengths your business possesses and what sets you apart from the rest. Use these strengths to your advantage whenever possible and take pride in them. Only you are you.

Now, think about these questions and how you can apply them to help plan out your 2021:

  • What does your successful, “done” business look like?
  • What did you do differently to reach that?
  • What do you need to do now to align with that future version of your business?

The answers that you and countless business owners out there are searching for are usually a lot closer to home than we think. We just need to start looking.
