Episode 90 – What type of entrepreneur are you?

Podcast

Businesses took a hard hit this year, and for many, trying to wade through all of the information out there that is being shoved in your face on how you should be running things can be quite frustrating. From this marketing strategy, or this one tactic that will make you more money, it’s no wonder these businesses are out here trying everything they can and throwing it at the wall just to see if it sticks. While this may work for some, the rest of these people are left stuck in a place of uncertainty having spent little to no time on the things that really need their focus.

The problem these businesses are facing aren’t a lack of new strategy, but a lack of focus. Instead of turning their backs on everything they had already built and looking for someone else to give them the answer, they should be looking for the answer that is right in front of them.

Take a look at your business: How were things run before? How are you running them now? What are you really good at and what are some thing that could probably use a little work and have been neglected? These simple but powerful questions can be all there is standing in between you and the ultimate success of your business. And by asking these to yourself, you might also be able to discover what type of entrepreneur you are.

There are four types of entrepreneurs, at least how I’ve narrowed it down:

The first: The Avoider. They want all of the answers and benefits of success that come from someone who does the work, without actually doing the work. Any actual issues are turned a blind eye to and excuses as to why they aren’t getting anywhere pour out constantly.

Number two: The People Pleaser. There isn’t anything or anyone they won’t say “Yes” to. Customers, employees, vendors, what have you. All of these problems get their full attention, but unfortunately none is left for the important things that need it.

Third up: The Control Master. The one who needs complete and total control over everything that goes on which ends up putting you right where the People Pleasers end up: exhausted, overwhelmed, and not focusing on what you should be.

And lastly: The Visionary. The ideal entrepreneur. One who can let go of what does not serve them, one who is okay with imperfections and realizes that it’s all part of growth. They are transparent enough to let their team know that while they don’t have all of the answers, they are going to show up as a leader for them regardless.

Each of these types has it’s own unique set of outcomes and consequences, it’s up to you to realize where you fall and how you can make the changes you need to become the entrepreneur you desire to be.
