Change is hard. No one likes change. Sometimes we feel like if we try to change something, we are going to change ourselves. Sometimes we feel like, ‘oh my gosh, I don’t want to do that new thing because I’m going to have to do all this new work. I’m going to totally have to change my behavior and I don’t want to do that because that’s not me.’ But if you think about it, if we stay in the place where we are right now, we’ll never be able to move forward.

Sometimes our fear of change can come up as perfectionism, that we want things to be perfect and have everything figured out, it has to be perfect and look perfect, before we launch something or do anything with it.

Sometimes it shows up as wanting to control everything or not wanting to let go of something.

Those fears are actually fear of rejection in disguise. And not wanting to change because we’re afraid we are going to be rejected.

If we try to do something new, like step into the new role in our job, or we try for that management position, or we try to create a new income stream in our business. If we make that leap and it doesn’t work, that fear of rejection becomes real and prevents us from moving forward. It shows up as wanting to control everything and shows up as perfectionism. It also shows up as stalling.

But what can we do instead? We can make that leap. Make the decision that we are going to try something new. We are going to shift our behavior. We are going to be the person that we need to be that’s already successful.

And what else we can do is decide to just step up off the curb, knowing that it might not work, that it might not be the right thing at this right time but that’s okay. We put it out there and we try anyway. We may make a mistake. Maybe the messaging isn’t right or it doesn’t hit the right spot in the market.

But that is okay. We can go back and revisit it and try again.

That’s the beauty of life. We can keep trying, changing, growing, stepping out of our comfort zone to step into the person we were meant to be.

But first we need to be that person before we even get to the end results.

So what is more painful? Actually stepping out and making the change and falling down or wondering what could have happened because we never tried at all because we never tried to make the change?

What’s worse? Changing, trying something new and potentially succeeding or never trying at all? 

This is your year to make a change. To try something new. To stand and be the person you need to be, the person that’s already successful, that’s tried something new, fell down and gotten back up.

This is your year to fight for your dreams and see what’s possible.
