Episode 75 – Slowing Down | Lessons Learned in Hard Times

This morning while sitting and trying to write out a post, I said to my husband “I feel stuck. I have the topic I want to discuss but I can’t seem to find the words”. This topic is one that I talk a lot about, and for good reason. Humanizing the growth process is vital for anyone who wants success. It means realizing that it’s not all going to be achievements and glory, but failures and mistakes and stumbles we’ve made along the way. Those are the things that incite true growth from within.

So I woke up ready to talk all about it, but I was just exhausted. With all of the anxieties of life piling up, it’s started to throw my normal routine off. I usually wake up on a Sunday, ready to plan out my week, and I get to work with my puppies sitting next to me. This morning, however, was a different story. I woke up with this heavy feeling, almost of exhaustion. I started trying to put words together and it wasn’t coming out how I wanted it to. Feeling defeated, I looked to my husband for support. He suggested that maybe the reason I couldn’t get the words out was because it wasn’t what I really wanted to talk about.

This wasn’t inherently true. I did want to talk about the topic. He asked “How have you been feeling lately?” Truthfully? Overwhelmed. “So talk about that” he says. He did have a point. I’ve been so caught up in my recent launches and workshops that I haven’t been taking the advice that I preach out to the world: slow. down. I’m not talking about taking a vacation or time off, but time spent revisiting your visions, your goals. What are we doing and what is it that we want to do?

It’s easy to lose track of your path to success, especially in tough times. We start to veer from that alignment we have with our vision and that’s when we start to burn ourselves out and feel out of control.  All it takes to get back on course is slowing down and really gaining clarity on our business. And most importantly, realizing that feeling this way is completely normal in any journey to success. Our failures are just as valuable, if not more, than our victories. They teach us how to do things differently when they don’t work out the first time. They teach us to get back up and keep fighting. Without failure, what would we compare our success to?

You always have control over your life. You might not be able to control how things happen to you or when, but what you can control is how you react and respond to them. Take a deep breath in when problems come your way, and let the solution come to you instead of scrambling to make everything perfect. The imperfections are where the results lie.
