More and more prevalently, businesses of all kinds are finding the need to implement technology into all parts of their functions. From POS systems, to websites and online stores, chip readers, social media, and on and on, it can be difficult to learn each individually and integrate them with ease.
I’ve come to realize 4 major problems that small business owners run into with these technology systems:
- They don’t have processes set up to handle them. Without a process for how to run a system or program it or demonstrate to somebody else how to use it properly, it’s a pretty useless piece of tech.
- They buy something they don’t “need”. It’s the latest, greatest thing on the market and every business has got one. But that shouldn’t be the reason you need one as well. Technology is a great asset and can provide helpful tools, but if you don’t know why this is helping your business, it might just be another costly expense.
- They allow somebody else to tell them how to use their systems. Big no-no. Only you truly know what it is you are trying to accomplish with your business and how you are going to get the results that you want to see. Businesses are not one-size-fits-all, and the technology you use in that business will not be run the same either. Learn the basic functions and troubleshooting and take it from there.
- They buy refurbished equipment. Saving a dollar is all fine and well, but when it comes to your business, your dream, don’t cheap out. You want to make sure that the technology you are investing time and money into is worth every cent and isn’t going to cause you any additional problems down the line.
