So many people plan for things and do things based on where they are right here and now. When you do that you aren’t giving yourself room for your dream to grow. When you do that you aren’t stretching far enough and really believing in our own abilities to figure things out. We want to live in our best self now, conduct our best self, and imagine a positive version of our future self, and consistently engage in activities so that we can have a vision beyond whatever is happening now.
When we’re planning for where we want to go, what we want to do, and who we want to be, we always want to have a vision for ourselves beyond what our current circumstances are. When I sit down with people to work on planning awesome things for the future I often get the answer,
“We can’t do that because we don’t have the budget for it,” or,
“We can’t do that because our current system only does XYZ.”
“We can’t do it because we don’t have the staff”
Stop right there! How about contemplating the question..but what if? What if it were all possible?
Where do you want to go? What are your dreams for your business 2, 5, 10 years from now? Your business is not going to look like it does today, 2 weeks from now and even 2 months from now. It is consistently growing, changing and evolving so why would you base what you want for the future on your current situation?
And then the creativity begins and the wheels start turning…
So many people underestimate what they’re able to do in one year’s time frame and even in one month’s time frame and they WAYYY over estimate what they can do in 1 day. Crazy, right?! Focusing on where we want to go and what we want to do, not based on where we are today but where we want to get to keeps us focused and centered on what is at the center of our being. It keeps us focused on our “Why”. This puts that energy for future growth, and propelling into the future out there for .
So how do we do this?
Create good daily habits that set you up for success
First, we have to create good daily habits. The more that we can apply the good habits that enable us to shift to a positive mindset, the habits that enable us to have a daily intention, the habits that set us up for success the better our future outlook will be. One of my daily habits that I’ve stuck to for years centers around intention. Every morning, every day, every moment I’m setting an intention for something. This intention drives the energy behind any and every thing I do. Every time I’m going to see a new client or I’m going to a meeting, no matter what I do, before I step into the room I set an intention for myself. I set an intention to bring my highest self, to be able to inspire and be a sounding board, to help them figure things out and above all to bring positive energy. No matter what good daily habits you create (hint: if you need help to create good daily habits check out “Master Your Motivation“), make sure that those good daily habits are consistent because the more we are consistent the more we can use those habits to create things that can ultimately make a difference in the lives of others. Even if it starts just one person at a time.
Learn to visualize to help shift your perspective
The second thing that goes along with creating good habits is learning how to visualize. A lot of people don’t do that enough. Because they can’t shift their perspective and their mindset, they look at something and say, “Oh, I’m a loser I’m never going to get there,” or, “The business can’t do that we don’t have the budget for it,” or, “We’re not profitable, we’re never going to be profitable, we just need to cut, cut, cut.” What that does is it squishes that energy from being able to move you forward, and for us to be able to have that vision of where we want to get to and how we want to ultimately feel each day.
Learn how to visualize, even if you start with one minute a day, then you can move up to 5 or 10 minutes. Sit and close your eyes and just think about what it would look like and how it would feel to be in the future doing what it is that you really want to do, or experiencing the growth in your business that you really want to have. Some people lose that ability to visualize because they feel like they’ve already reached that level of success and what else could they do. They become stagnant and ultimately lose perspective…and become miserable. There are very wealthy people, very successful executives who go through burnout and get stuck and can’t visualize. They can’t see a future because they’ve already achieved what they thought was possible for them and that’s it. And they get stuck. Being able to sit down and see your grandest vision for your future is so so important.
Set some goals that make you stretch and break through blocks
Writing down your goals goes along with the vision process, it goes along with creating those daily habits. Set some goals that push you out of your comfort zone and make you stretch a little further than what you thought was possible. And most definitely, make sure you’re writing them down. When you write things down, it makes your goals and visions solid, it makes them come real because they are scheduled to happen.
Make sure that no matter what you do, you have a vision for your self, for your life, and your business beyond your current circumstances. Living your best self now and imagining that positive version of you and what that positive version of you in the future looks like. Consistently engage in those activities to become that person. That includes creating good daily habits, learning to visualize, writing down your goals, and reaching and pushing yourself out of your comfort zone a little bit. No matter what it is, just be clear on what you want for your life and where you want to go, what you want for your business, and how you want to move forward.
Remember, when we shift our thoughts, we can see things differently and ultimately change the world. You can do this!
